Join Tim in some of the country’s most beautiful outdoor locations for
an active vacation filled with field shooting, photographic exploration, and
critique. Tim’s Location workshops taught through the Rocky
Mountain School of Photography are a unique mix of learning, sharing, heightened
awareness, personal reflection, relaxation, and a gathering of like-minded
people. Each workshop has a slightly different focus but all involve the core
components of being in the right place at the right time to create photographs,
and a week packed full of learning the art of photography.
Foundation Workshops
The Foundation Workshop is designed for the person who is just beginning in Photography. In order to build anything, starting with a solid foundation is crucial. Building photography skills is no different. These Workshops with RMSP let you begin and continue your photography education with confidence. I will help lay the groundwork to expand your knowledge base, while also creating a comfortable and fun atmosphere.
Location workshops

overall understanding of photography. The workshop will include lectures,
critique, and on site field shooting. Topics covered will include Composition,
Exposure, Filters and Reading and Understanding Light. All Photographers

photographing while still receiving the one-on-one assistance in composition
and technique. Back in the classroom the learning continues through constructive
feedback during critiques, where you'll gain insight about exposure, aesthetics,
and printing your work. Shoot and Critique Workshops are designed for seasoned
photographers who are building their portfolios, ready to explore uplifting
locations, and wishing to share ideas with fellow photographers. Clicking

Digital Process and Print Workshops
Adobe Photoshop® is the number one image-editing software tool used by
photographers today. An enormous program created for many different uses, Photoshop
can be overwhelming for the photographer to learn. Tim will show you the aspects
of the program most employed by photographers and discover how to have more
control over the look of your prints in the digital darkroom.
These workshops are geared towards photographers who want to increase their
knowledge of their digital cameras and Photoshop and take maximum advantage
of their time. Tim uses Photoshop extensively with his own photography and
has been teaching Photoshop and digital imaging for several years.
During the workshop you work at an assigned computer and have access to Rocky
Mountain School of Photography’s network inkjet printers. The week incorporates
hands-on lectures and demonstrations as well as lab time for practicing what
you have learned in class on your own images. Please click on the following
link for more information, pricing and enrollment.
Each Winter and Spring Tim joins the Rocky Mountain School
of Photography to offer weekend seminars in cities
throughout the United States and Canada. These
events attract hundreds of avid photographers
interested in improving their skills and expanding
their knowledge. The popularity of these Weekends
is a testament to the power of the captured image
and photography’s lifelong learning curve.
The Weekend curriculums are complete and current.
Each event includes two days of lectures, demonstrations,
question-and-answer periods, and photographic examples
designed to develop your skills and expand your
knowledge. Tim will be lecturing in both the Photo
and Digital Weekends for 2006. For a complete listing

Are you searching for a way to continue your Photographic Education in between
workshops? Check out the online classes at www.betterphoto.com. BetterPhoto
is an outstanding online education center, and I am very pleased to be teaching
a course through them!
The online courses at BetterPhoto have a really cool design to them. A lesson
and assignment are sent via email once a week for you to read and complete
as your time allows. You upload your assignment photos to BetterPhoto
for a full and enlightening critique. Your photos and accompanying critiques
are then posted for you to view.
BetterPhoto lists the following reasons to take an online course.
• You get one-on-one instruction from a world-class published photographer
who is also a fantastic teacher and mentor.
• You connect not just with your instructor, but also with the other students
in your class. This kind of supportive peer interaction is unique to BetterPhoto.com's
photography classes.
• These BetterPhoto "Short Courses" are self-paced within the 4-week
session.
• You don't have to be at your computer at a particular time. And you have plenty
of time to complete your emailed assignment, but can interact with your instructor
and other students at any time, online.
• The online learning environment is always supportive and fun. There's no
pressure to "perform" like what you might experience in a classroom
environment. That said, our lessons are challenging and the critiques are honest
and constructive.
Personal Photo Critiques allow you to have your images critiqued
in a one on one situation without the expense of traveling or the trepidation
that often accompanies group critiques. Unlike other online critiques, given
by fellow students of photography, Personal Photo Critiques employ my years
of experience as a photographer, photo instructor, photo enthusiast, critic,
consultant and artist. Perfect for the new photographer that has reservations
about showing their work to groups as well as seasoned photogrpahers who wish
for a more professional viewpoint. Send me your images via email and I will
record a Quicktime movie of my comments and critique. This method of reviewing
images includes audio as well as visual. Watch and listen as I work my
way around your photograph highlighting the good points as well as making suggestions
for improvement. Quicktime movie critiques can be downloaded or returned by
mail on a CD. Both versions will ensure high quality viewing.
The price for Personal
Photo Critiques is $25 for 3 images.

Tim's Print Treatment enables you to watch as I work on your
image in Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Photoshop Elements. I have noticed over the
years that learning the tools in these editing programs is only the first step.
Next we must learn to "see", "previsualize" or "enhance" the image. So you
know the commands that will create more contrast or color, but when do you
this. Why do you do this? If you have never worked in a traditional darkroom,
then the ideas of burning and dodging or overall contrast versus local contrast
may be unfamiliar to you. Upload your images and I will show you exactly how
I would edit them in Photoshop. Watch over my shoulder as I correct, enhance,
burn, dodge, and create masks. Viewing these sessions will also give
insight into why I decided which tool to use and when to use it. This is a
great opportunity for folks that are familiar with Photoshop but want to spend
time learning how to visualize and craft their images.
The price for Tim's Print
Treatment is $25 for 2 images.

1. Create a new folder on your desktop and title
it Critique.
2. Open Photoshop or Elements. Open your
image and go up to the menu and choose File> Save As. (This is
an extra step that I am including to reduce the chance of you harming your
original). Rename your file so it doesn’t overwrite your original image
and save it into your desktop folder-Critique. You may want to put the
word critique1 in the title to avoid possible confusion. Click OK.
3. Go up to the menu bar and choose Image> Image
Size (Elements - Size> Resize> Image Size). You will see the Image
size dialog box like the one in the upper right.
4. Type 1000 into Pixel Dimension box
that represents the longest dimension. The other box will automatically
change to work with the proportion of your image.
5. Click Ok.
6. Go up to File> Save As. In
the resulting box, ensure a proper name for your file. Save this file
into the Critique folder on the desktop. Choose Jpeg for the format. Click SAVE. (If
It won’t allow you to save it as a Jpeg, click Cancel. Go up to
Image> Mode> 8 bits/ channel. Repeat step 6).
7. The Jpeg Options box will appear. In
the image options section of the box choose “8” for the Quality. Keep
the Format Options at “Baseline”. Click OK. Return
to your open image in Photoshop and close it out. Repeat for all images
that you want to upload. Continue with naming convention Critique2, Critique3,
etc.
The last step will be returning to your Critique folder on your desktop. Open
the folder and delete the images that are not Jpegs. These are extra images
that were produced to protect our originals.
